The Story of Chang'e Flying to the Moon

One day, when Houyi was away, Feng Meng broke into their home, demanding the elixir from Chang'e. Refusing to give it to him, Chang'e knew she couldn't let the elixir fall into the wrong hands.

In a moment of desperation, Chang'e swallowed the elixir. Instead of granting eternal life, the elixir caused her to float up towards the heavens. Chang'e ascended higher and higher until she landed on the moon, where she would remain forever.

Heartbroken by the loss of his wife, Houyi built an altar on the moon to pay tribute to Chang'e. Every year, on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, people would hold a festival to commemorate Chang'e's sacrifice. They would offer fruits, mooncakes, and burn incense to express their love and respect for her.

Since then, Chang'e has become the legendary Moon Goddess, forever residing on the moon with her jade rabbit, where she watches over the earth and brings good fortune to those who believe in her story.
