You know, I felt the same way growing up.
Living in the US as a Vietnamese, no one knew the little, humble nation under China. In 2nd grade I was asked:
“Are you Chinese??”
“No, I’m not.”
“Japanese?”
“No, not that too.”
“What Asian are you then?”
“I am Vietnamese.”
“What’s that?”

That statement broke my heart. I was very proud at the time to be Vietnamese. It made me feel really special that I could speak two languages while others couldn’t.Other things to feel shameful about are:
Colonized under China for most of our history
Colonized under France for almost years
People think our language sounds like Chinese
We don’t have a common writing system with our other East Asians
We’re irrelevant in the world and world politics
Our nation is tiny
But a lot of those things to be shameful about are in the past. Now is a time for Vietnam to grow into hopefully a powerhouse in Southeast Asia.

We’re a very irrelevant nation that only we ourselves care about, but that’s okay.Who gives a flying f*** if no one knows our history and nation? As long as we know our proud nation it’s all we need.
We as a people have endured many hardships, but we are still here. The Chinese ruled over us for thousands of years, but we still have a distinct culture. Same with the French, but we endured.
Take pride in being Vietnamese. We’re one of the most stoic and hardworking people out there. There’s nothing to be ashamed about.Plus we have really healthy cuisine and it is delicious

Why? Is it because vietnam is a poorer nation? Or is it due to the recent riots? Or maybe your genetics in affecting your appearance.Vietnam has the most glorious past as it was a superpower in south east asia in the ancient times and during the 1970s.Poor? Why its the cost of winning wars. When the mongols came the vietnamese had to abandon their cities. Which got sacked. Hey its better than being exterminated and raped right? The vietnamese are reknown to be Hardy and tenacious. Thats why they have the highest AQ meaning they can suffer a lot more before they give in. They also have a Higher IQ which they Gentically Inherited through years of Han Chinese Mixing. Meaning every vietnamese have a high Han Chinese percentage of Dna in their genes. Vietnamese are of Yueh decent from southern china. Thats why most overseas vietnamese like my wife and friends become doctors lawyers dentists etc etc fields.Be proud stand up tall. Despite having more bombs dropped on vietnam than the entire of WW2, being sprayed by Agent Orange causing babies to grow with three heads, and being embargoed like North Korea. Vietnams gdp is skyrocketing every year. Everyday vietnam is a richer country it will catch up to Thailand soon.Trust your East Asian genetics. Like Korea china and Japan they managed to rebuild and recover quick.

2. Cultural heritage in Vietnam
I think Vietnamese people can be proud of their cultural heritage.
I visited Vietnam three times since last November. I was amazed to see Vietnam&#;&#;s cultural heritage. The most impressive place in Hanoi was the temple of literature, not because of the appearance or grandeur of the buildings. I have found a spirit of respect to academics and scholarship of Vietnamese in there.

4. Humanism of the Vietnamese
I visited Vietnam three times since last November. I visited all around Vietnam, some small local cities as well as famous sightseeing spots in Vietnam.
I was able to discover that most Vietnamese .
(1) paying their respect to older people
(2) worship ancestors
(3) valued their family
(4) low crime rates and high ethical awareness
In short, these are humanism of Vietnamese. Now, Korean Wave such as K-Pop or K-drama is popular in many countries. Many people wonder why so many people like Korean Wave. I believe that the origin of the Korean wave is humanism. Humanism is a magic code that goes through every country in the world.No supremacy or military power can be stronger than humanism.
The tradition of humanism in Vietnam must be a magic wand which can leads Vietnam to happiness. You can proud of it.
4.越南人的人道主义
自去年月以来，我曾三次访问越南。 我参观了越南的各个地方，一些地方小城市以及越南著名的观光景点。我发现大多数越南人。

If you be ashamed that Vietnam is a small country, it is serious fault.As a Korean, I envy your land of Vietnam.

(7) Seasonal disaster due to tropical climate
(8) insufficient social welfare system

In fact, all countries in the world have similar problems, so these are not the problems to be ashamed of. I am a first generation Vietnamese in my family to be born in America. There is a lack of a physical connection to the Vietnamese’s soil. However, I never once felt shame to be Vietnamese. A characteristic that was passed down to us is resiliency and it runs through our DNA as an ethnic group. What it means to be Vietnamese is to be resilient and that is in our history. I suggest that you do further research about the country of Vietnam. I am confident that you will be intrigue, fascinated and will be overwhelmed with pride for your history.

I understand you although don’t know why you have felt that. I did not exactly feel ashamed but I felt small and there were times I felt I was treated differently bc I was Vietnamese when I was studying abroad. This was because in my class people kept bashing the type of government we have, or because my voice was not as noticeable from time to time because I was Vietnamese. Or that when people wanted to tell more about abt their country and only forced fake attention when I told them abt our country. I know our country is full of good and tough and smart people. We have lot more compassion and sincerity than developed nations,and we are smart and hard-working. But some people think they are better than us just because their country is richer. I actually learned to love my country better when I was abroad. Because I realize we have so much potential but so looked down on, they are not that quicker or smarter than us but they have so much, I realize VN deserves much more than wht we are having. I realize I want to contribute to my country and I start loving it so much more than when I was in VN.

In just years, you guys wanna lick Uncle Sam’s feet all over again. Most Vietnamese now approve Uncle Sam %. Most Vietnamese have inferiority complex toward Americans. I’ve seen countless Vietnamese who treat white women and men as semi-gods and long to be Westernized.I’m not advocating hatred against Americans. It shows low self-esteem and inferiority complex. See how Americans treat Bin Laden and Talibans for killing people. Can you imagine Americans worshiping Bin Laden? But Vietnamese worship Uncle Sam who killed more than 3 millions. That’s why you should be ashamed.
